Abstract

Based on the concept of «ism», defined as ‘an own or characteristic linguistic use of a given territory, social group or activity’, this study analyzes the lin- guistic uses of the different Spanish-speaking countries or nations. The intention of these pages is twofold: on the one hand, to analyze the way in which the Academic dictionary, in its successive editions, has treated dialectal voices of national profile; on the other hand, to present the materials collected through the survey system of the Varilex-R project. These materials allow us to address a quantitative and qualitative analysis of national isms and check what this type of source means for lexicography, compared to other sources.
