Abstract

Although we are already quite familiar with the fundamental aspects of the origin and development of the Diccionario de Autoridades (DA), what is still lacking is a sufficiently detailed vision of its content and, more specifically, of the large quantity of works and authors cited as illustrative examples of the use of words and frequency of use of each one of them. There can clearly only be a complete analysis of these aspects if an electronic version of the text is to be made available - one which would at least allow for the automatic retrieval of the most general quantitative information. The present study seeks to bring this task to fruition and to provide the complete relationship between works and authors cited in the DA, along with their corresponding usage. For this purpose use is made of the electronic version of the DA, available to the public on the website of the Real Academia Española (http://web.frl.es/DA.html).
