Abstract

The life and work of Jovellanos are an example and symbol of the attempts to overcome the social rupture between the two Spains, the country of faith during the Enlightenment and the one which fought for its identity. The most famous political prisoner of our history was a failed reformer and an intellectual repressed by the power whose corruption he confronted.
