IN DEFENCE OF ORTHOLOGY

Abstract

Orthology is a linguistic discipline that should be given more importance in Spain, a society concerned with the protection of language; consequently, the pronunciation of the language is totally unprotected by precautionary rules. Not enough attention is paid to it at any educational level. When children are about twelve years old, they have reached the peak of their capacity for acquiring linguistic habits; therefore, it seems absurd not to make use of the skills of primary school students. It is imperative that the universities and institutions which could have an influence should do everything in their hands to raise the awareness of the need of Orthology and retrieve it for classrooms at a decisive moment.
