Abstract

This paper examines a group of twelve satirical political poems dating from the end of the seventeenth century, choosing as object of satiric scrutiny an azafata of queen Marie Louise de Orléans known as «la Cantina», whose palace intrigues resulted in one of the most famous judicial processes of the century. This paper offers an annotated edition of these poems, accompanied by an outlook of political satire in the reign of Charles II of and a revision of the above-mentioned historical episode.
