Abstract

This study examines the great number of variations in the plural with anglicisms in present-day Spanish, as they are found in the social media, especially in the press, and the reasons which underlie the morphological patterns on which they are based. In addition, an evaluation is made on the different positions and criteria adopted by various linguistic and academic institutions when approaching this phenomenon, as well as the role played by stylebooks and national and international news agencies. Furthermore, the study gives an account of the hypercorrection found in a number of morphological, graphematic and syntactic variations of anglicisms as used by journalists.
