Abstract

Using documents preserved in the Archivo of the Real Academia Española, this work aims at offering an overview of the works that were developed for the first Diccionario histórico de la lengua española. Additionally, it will provide the necessary data to identify those RAE members who wrote and revised the entries made for that project (including not only those published during the years 1933-1936, but also those that have remained unpublished). Finally, this study highlights the importance of revisiting these types of sources (particularly, minute and account books) to try to rebuild the steps that, during those years, guided the constitution of the primary sources for the dictionary, organized by means of lexicographical cards extracted from diverse books and prepared by a wide range of collaborators.
