MANUEL MACHADO, ACADEMIC OF THE REAL SPANISH ACADEMY

Abstract

The aim of this article is to address an unexplored aspect of the poet Manuel Machado: his profile as a member of the Real Academia Española, which should have published his last book. The records kept in the archive of the RAE have allowed us to trace the various works assigned to him and also prove the poet’s interest in this Institution. It is here that his wake took place after his death on the19th of January 1947, and it is from here that the funeral procession, headed by the Corporation, left in order to place his mortal remains in the cemetery of La Almudena.
