Abstract

The formation of verbs with the structure [a-V-ecer] has been considered almost non-existent in Spanish. However, Batllori (2015) demonstrates that there is a series of forms that fall under this structure, which is of parasynthetic origin. Given that the -ecer forms seemed to establish themselves in the language in the fourteenth century, it is worth verifying whether this kind of lexical pattern can be found in the work of Nebrija, and his dictionaries in particular. Thus the concept of parasynthesis in his grammatical thinking is examined and a search is conducted in the Lexicon and Vocabulario, leading to the interesting conclusion that, for each lemma, Nebrija selects a form by applying systematic criteria.
