Abstract

The future can be expressed in the Romance languages of the Iberian Peninsula by means of several linguistic strategies: its own morphological tense, aspectual periphrases or even the use of the present indicative. In order to map the prevalence of all of these, as well as the factors affecting the choice of each of them, we drew data from the Atlas lingüístico de la Península Ibérica. This data reveals the linguistic reality that prevailed in the twentieth century in the three domains studied: Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan.
